“Forget Me Not” is a 3-season
lakefront cottage with sunset views on the historic East Shore Road of West
Caroga Lake. Enjoy casual lakeside living at its most relaxed, with front and
back decks, a spacious level lawn crowned with dramatic pines, and your own
personal Adirondack chairs, picnic table and stone firepit at a sandy
neighborhood association beach directly across the road. The shallow,
hard-bottomed waterfront is ideal for families with small children.
Freshly remodeled for the 2008
season, “Forget Me Not” has added modern amenities including all-new kitchen
and bath, new carpeting, fresh paint, ceiling fans, internet access and
easy-open screened windows to its considerable charms. The cottage has been
comfortably decorated with new and vintage furnishings in watery tones and soft
floral patterns.
Up to 6 guests can be accommodated
with “Forget Me Not’s” three
cozy bedrooms and a sleeper-sofa in the living room. The bedrooms
have ceiling fans, Berber carpeting, charming vintage coverlets, feather
pillows, warm blankets, Battenburg lace curtains and reading lamps. You provide
linens (sheets, pillowcases, towels). Dressers and wall hooks provide clothes
storage.
The lake-view master
bedroom has a queen bed and knotty-pine paneled walls. A wall-mounted TV
with standard cable is tucked in one corner, making the bedroom a quiet spot for
watching TV or videos undisturbed by other activities in the open-plan living
area. A selection of videos is provided.
A second queen
bedroom and one with a single twin bed have partial
lake views.
Lake-view windows span three sides
of the enclosed front porch, which has knotty-pine paneled
walls, an aqua enameled wood floor and an open pitched-roof ceiling. The porch
is furnished with comfortable mid-century vintage wire furniture cushioned in
blue and white florals.
A marine-blue door opens into the
knotty-pine living room, whose large windows sharing the
porch’s splendid views. Along another wall, a fireplace is framed
by additional windows for cross-ventilation of cool western breezes off the
lake. A ceiling fan circulates the lake air or warm heat from the fire. On the
mantel of the brick fireplace hearth is a proud and amusing display of numerous
silver trophy cups won by the owner’s beloved mother, a table-tennis champion.
The living room is furnished with
a cushy sleeper-sofa and upholstered chair custom-covered in a soft floral
pattern. The sturdy pine coffee table is a good spot for playing scrabble or
one of the other classic board games provided for quiet entertainment. A CD
stereo and a selection of CD’s is also provided.
Through an archway in the living
room is the eat-in kitchen, with knotty-pine walls and an
aqua enameled wood floor. The newly fitted kitchen has white lower cabinets
with marine-blue formica and butcherblock counters and open display shelving
above. The kitchen is well-equipped with a full-size refrigerator, gas range,
stainless steel sink and all small appliances. A water cooler provides spring
water for drinking. Marine-blue
glass pendant lights, wall sconces and a lighted ceiling fan amply illuminate
the room. A desk is built-in under a kitchen window to take advantage of wi-fi
high-speed internet access for your laptop computer.
Across the room, a dining
table seats 6. A glass-front cabinet displays a charming assortment of blue
floral dishes and serving pieces. The kitchen’s sliding glass doors lead to a back
deck and gas grill.
All new plumbing and fixtures in
the bathroom include a shower, pedestal sink and low-flow
toilet, with a mirrored medicine cabinet and dresser for storage.
“Forget Me Not’s” furnished
front deck looks out over perennial flower beds and a large, level lawn to
the lake. There is parking to the side for a maximum of 3 cars.
Our neighborhood association beach is just
across the road. It’s shallow with a sandy bottom, great for kids. It’s an easy
place to launch our kayaks (available for an additional fee), and the
lake is stocked for fishing enthusiasts. A patch of summer flowers, a spot of
green lawn big enough to spread a blanket, a sandy beach just waiting for a
pail and shovel....We’ve gilded the lily by adding a picnic table with umbrella for meals on the beach,
Adirondack chairs with cupholders for a cold one, and a stone fire-circle for
bonfires and s’mores. The view
can’t be beat, with spectacular sunsets and Sherman’s charming circa 1920’s
amusement park, complete with Ferris wheel and carousel, just down the beach.
There’s no better place to watch 4th of July fireworks.
“Forget Me Not” is located in a friendly
neighborhood, tucked between the
home of the late Frank Sherman of amusement park fame and “Red Wing,” one of
the oldest camps on Caroga Lake. “Forget Me Not” is within strolling distance
of restaurants, taverns, and just about everything else you’d need. Within
minutes walk there’s a post office, laundromat, general store, coffee shop,
gas, ATM, video rentals and chapel.
“Forget Me Not” accommodates a maximum
of 6 guests at all times; there is parking for a maximum
of 3 cars. Sorry, no pets and no smoking. “Forget Me Not” has a NO
SHOES policy: bring slippers or flip-flops for indoor use.
