Situated among majestic pines on a three-acre lot with a large sunny yard and beautiful
woods, Evergreen is a 3 bedroom year-round cabin, an
ideal nature lover’s getaway
in all seasons. Winter sports enthusiasts will
enjoy Evergreen’s proximity to
great cross-country skiing and ice-skating at world-renowned Lapland Lake
Resort; downhill skiing at Royal Mountain; ice-fishing on Caroga Lake;
snowmobiling, snowshoe trekking and cross-country skiing on a large network of
maintained trails. In warmer weather, bring kayaks
or canoes or rent ours – there’s an easy launch just steps away at
our dock on East Caroga
Lake. Swim there or at our sandy,
kid-friendly association beach, a 3-minute drive. The lake has many
coves to explore and is well stocked for sports
fishing. A channel connects to West Caroga Lake, for a combined
total of close to 700 acres of boating, fishing, swimming, exploring. Walking
through Evergreen’s woods in the spring
wildflower season, you might chance upon rare lady’s slippers;
pitcher plants are abundant in a nearby cove. Fall
foliage is glorious. Hiking trails, 17 golf courses, fishing
streams, hidden lakes, and gorgeous views from a mountaintop fire tower are all
nearby.
Evergreen is
furnished throughout in nostalgic ‘50’s funk style. It’s the camp you remember – but better!
The living room,
furnished in full mid-century retro
glory, has two sets of sliding glass doors to a wrap-around deck. A white flokati rug grounds the
seating area, with rattan sofas and chairs covered in vintage barkcloth forest
leaf prints, a round mirror-topped rattan coffee table and a fabulous wire
swivel rocker with leopard-print armrests. A TV with DVD, stereo, board games,
cards & poker chips offer entertainment.
Vibrant contemporary paintings, vintage lamps, pillar
candles in tall wrought-iron holders, and a fire-view
wood stove add to the ambience. Propane and electric heaters provide
supplemental heat.
Evergreen
accommodates up to six guests
with 2 full beds and 2 twins.
One full bedroom is furnished with a mid-century modern tiger-maple suite, lit
with folk-art popsicle-stick lamps. A second bedroom with antique full bed has
vintage barkcloth drapes. The classic 50’s twin bedroom has hard-rock maple
beds with cowboy chenille spreads and a spectacular collection of souvenir
banners.
All the bedrooms have high privacy windows with beautiful
treetop views, vintage bedspreads, pillows and warm blankets. You provide
sheets, pillowcases and towels.
The 50’s retro theme continues in the bathroom, whose tub sports a
floral barkcloth shower curtain.
The full-equipped eat-in
kitchen has a broad picture window with East Caroga Lake glimpsed
through pines. A large mirror over the kitchen sink reflects the view.
Appliances include a gas range with double ovens, full-size refrigerator,
microwave, toaster, coffee grinder and maker, blender, electric skillet and
fondue pot. A gas grill is
conveniently located on the deck just outside the kitchen, along with outdoor
dining. An outdoor fireplace
is perfect for bonfires with hotdogs & s’mores.
Evergreen is on a
quiet road rimming the lake in the village of Caroga Lake, within walking distance of all services
and 15 minutes from the historic sister-cities of Gloversville and Johnstown.
