Vacation Rentals Network - VRentals.Net Lake Placid Historic Club Cottage `Juniper`
4 bedrooms, 4 baths, sleeps 8

As the Lake Placid Club grew from its inception in 1895, it experienced many expansive changes. At it`s height, the private club included 6000 acres in an extensive development of accommodations, recreation facilities, service buildings, farmland and forest. In the early part of the 1900s certain members of the club were no longer satisfied with the hotel-like accommodations in the large club house. Over time some 40 "cottages" were built near, but separate from, the main building. Today, fewer than a dozen of these historic houses remain. Our house, Juniper, built in 1923. is one of them. The total renovation of the property, completed in July 2005, has been as respectful as possible of the original Juniper and is designed to maximize its secluded forest setting and the varity of mature trees which surround the house.

There are four bedrooms. One of the bedrooms has a fire place and every bedroom has its own screened porch. There are also four bathrooms; three are part of a master suite with a bedroom. The one bathroom that is not attached to a bedroom has a ten jet, two person, whirlpool tub. Not intending to sound too much like a spa; however, the house also contains a highly theraputic infrared dry sauna.

The living room has a 14` cathedral ceiling, great views of the forest and a very large stone fire place. The room is well suited for sitting around the fire place and/or watching TV, a VCR, a DVD, or listening to music. For those less media oriented, there is a selection of books and games. In a secluded corner of the living room there is a desk with high speed internet access. If sitting at a desk is not what you came to do, this high speed access is wireless so you are able to choose your view.

One of the main reasons that our family loves our house is because it is so close to what we want to do. On the grounds are 45 holes of golf on three golf courses designed by Scots for the Lake Placid Club. There are also hard surface and clay tennis courts. There is a privete beach on Mirror Lake which lives comfortably next to the new Boat House Restaurant. The golf courses are criss-crossed with hiking trail which take one up to the mountains and in the winter that same course and trails become groomed cross-country ski trails. For the more urban and less athletic, the shops and restaurants of Lake Placid are a short and pleasant walk away. A two mile, plus, perimeter walk around Mirrior Lake allows modest bragging rights. With a car, skiing at the Olympic mountain of White Face is 15 minutes away, and, in all seasons, the near-by activities and attractions are nearly limitless.
