Vacation Rentals Network - VRentals.Net Lake Placid Historic Club Cottage `Mt. Ash`
4 bedrooms, 3 baths, sleeps 8

As the Lake Placid Club grew from its inception in 1895, it experienced many expansive changes. At its height, the private club included 6000 acres in an extensive development of accommodations, recreation facilities, service buildings, farmland and forest. In the early part of the 1900s certain members of the club were no longer satified with the hotel- like accommodations in the large club house. Over time some 40 "cottages" were built near bur separate from the main building. Today, fewer than a dozen of these historic buildings remain. Our house, Mt. Ash, built in 1917, is one of them. The total renovation of the property , completed in June 2003, has been as respectful as possible of the original Mt. Ash and is designed to maximize the spectacular views of the Adirondack high peaks.

Each of three bedrooms has a fireplace, leaving the master bedroom without a fireplace but, of course, with its own bathroom. There is a fourth fireplace in the living room.

The living room, and the deck beyond, offer the views of the high mountain peaks. However, the room is also well suited for sitting around the fireplace, watching TV, a VCR, a DVD or listening to music. For those less media oriented, there is a full selection of books and games. Off the living room is the den, which offers additional views of the mountains. From the living room the only human contraption to be seen is the Olympic ski jump while from the den man`s presence is announced by the bob sled run. The den is equipped with high speed internet access and a printer/copier/fax machine to provide an office center, as needed.

The spa room contains a Nordic Track cross country ski exerciser for exertion and a hot tub, which holds up to six people, for relaxation and recuperation in a large and powerful 21 jet spa.

One of the reason our family loves our home is because it is so close to what we want to do. On the grounds are 45 holes of golf on three golf courses designed by Scots for the Lake Placid Club. There are also hard surface and clay tennis courts. There is a private beach on Mirror Lake , which lives comfortably next to the new Boat House Restaurant. The golf course is criss-crossed with hiking trails, which take one up to the mountains and in the winter that same course boasts groomed cross country ski trails. For the more urban and less athletic, the shops and restaurants of Lake Placid are a short and pleasant walk and a walk around the two mile ,plus, perimeter of Mirror Lake also affords bragging rites. With a car, skiing at the Olympic mountain of White Face is 15 minutes away, and, in all seasons, the near-by activities and attractions are nearly limitless.
